Welcome to Homecoming
Hello friend,
I am so excited you signed up for Homecoming. We all need more rest in healthcare. We all need more EFFECTIVE rest in healthcare - rest that really enriches and restores our lives.
The following box describes the incredibly complicated and detailed practice that I will be inviting you to try out over the next 8 weeks:
The Rest Practice
Find 5-10 minutes to be alone and still with yourself.
No screens, no distractions, just you!
Lying or seated, whatever works for you.
Try and do this at least once a day, most days.
If you start doing this, no matter how weird it feels, no matter how much your brain is screaming for you to stop, you will exit this course more rested than you entered, period.
AND
Your brain and body will have objections. That’s what the rest of the course will help you with.
Each week, you will are invited to interact with two modules. These will include written content, podcasts or videos, as well as reflection prompts - all to be explored at your own pace and interest.
The “A” module will focus on a “top-down” approach - speaking to your brain in order to further connect you to your body.
The “B” will focus on a “bottom-up” approach - inviting you to try a body-focused activity to connect back up to your brain.
Overwhelmed? Annoyed that a course about rest has so much content? I get it. So please read this part closely: Nothing here is compulsory. Everything here is optional.
I’ve designed a course buffet for you. Each email or podcast or video stands on its own with a nugget of help for you. None of it expires. If it actually takes you 8 months instead of 8 weeks to complete the modules, no one will know or be mad.
May this course bring you the connection with your body’s willingness to rest - the rest we all sorely need and deserve.
